Roles of Occupational Training and Safety Professionals
Occupational training is one of the most effective ways to prepare workers to cope with various situations at the work place. Here hands-on experience is used to teach workers their responsibilities in handling the various situations that emerge at work place. The idea is that if each worker handled his bit well it would be easy to handle even the most complex of the work place situations. Occupational training is mostly done by professionals who have had experience in handling workplace problems. Occupational training is important to keep workers updated on new techniques, to teach workers how to handle new technology, instill safety measures and techniques among workers and so on.
Occupational training professionals have various roles. One of the roles is assessing the existing workers training programs to ensure that they are up to date and that they prepare the workers to meet the various workplace challenges that affect them. Where it is possible to provide quick solutions they do so. They then come up with occupational training programs meant to address the specific problems that they find to exist in the organizations or even those that they anticipate to affect them in the near future.
After coming up with a training program for the workers the next step is the actual training. Occupational training involves holding training sessions for the management as well as for the lower cadre workers. This simply means that the progress you design, say for instance a program on new occupational safety methods, has to be designed to fit both the management and the workers. On several occasions you will be forced to draw a different program for the management and another for the workers.
After training comes evaluation. You will have to find out how the training impacted on the general performance of the company and if the trainees found what you teach useful. Find out how well the tips you gave during the training were implemented.
