Project management, especially one that involves managing a large project from inception to completion, is not easy. Project management becomes a really difficult task when you have to do everything manually. Luckily, there are various project management systems that one can use to reduce the burden on project managers. Ideally, project management systems are supposed to help the project manager moderate and evaluate the project throughout the project's life cycle. But just like any other computer application they work differently and give different quality of results.
An efficient project management system should give the project manager good project visibility. This means that the project management system should enable the project manager see the whole project as a whole instead of seeing it as individual components. Seeing the project wholly as opposed to partially enables the project manger make more accurate predictions about the challenges that lie in front of him and know in good advance how best to tackle them. A good management system should make it easier to estimate the time it might require to complete the remaining part of the project. With this kind of knowledge, it makes it easier for the manager to factor in factors such as inflation and get a clearer picture of the total cost.
Efficient project management system should allow the project manager have good visibility of the resources available. This means that the manager should be able to clearly know the amount available and the amount required to complete the remaining part of the project. This will enable the manager to know how best to distribute resources and which work to prioritize so as to make maximum progress with the available resources. This will help the project manager avoid the situation where one might run out of the resources before reaching the projected target.
