Customer service should be extended past the day of purchase to cover the period even after the customer has already started using the good or the service. You can comfortably do this by offering after sale service, warranty and so on. This offers a big competitive advantage to the supply chain as a whole.
It is not easy to improve supply chain management if you have no set benchmarks against which to gauge your performance. Benchmarks are goals that the supply chain has set to achieve within a set period of time. When setting the benchmarks you have to consider also what the competition is doing so that you can set goals that are responsive to the market. Existing data concerning your supply chain will be very crucial when it comes to setting realistic goals. Top among the priorities to consider when setting the benchmarks is the budget.
